Iowa First Nations Tuition Program

IFN LogoIf you belong to any of these Tribes/Nations or related bands and communities and can document your affiliation, you will likely qualify for resident tuition and fees if you attend The University of Iowa.

  • Kickapoo

  • Menominee

  • Miami

  • Missouri

  • Ojibwa/Chippewa

  • Omaha

  • Otoe

  • Ottawa/Odawa

  • Potawatomi

  • Sac and Fox/Sauk/Meskwaki

  • Sioux

  • Winnebago


The Iowa State Board of Regents has a policy that grants residence status for the purposes of tuition and fees to American Indians affiliated with Tribe/Nations historically connected to the present state of Iowa.  In other words, regardless of your state of residency, if you qualify as an American Indian belonging to any one of the Tribes/Nations historically linked to Iowa, you will be assessed only resident tuition and fees.
