Advantage Iowa Scholars
Who Received the Advantage Iowa Award?
First-year students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents whose enrollment contributes to a diverse learning environment at Iowa.
Eligibility criteria may include one or more of the following: race/ethnic background, socioeconomic factors, whether the student is a first-generation college student (parents have not graduated from college), and participation in a federally funded Upward Bound program.
Awards were based on academic achievement.
Eligible students were considered automatically upon admission.
Advantage Iowa support is available for eight semesters or until the completion of the bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first.
What are the Renewal Criteria for the Advantage Iowa Award?
Maintain a UI cumulative 2.5 grade-point average.
Maintain continous full-time enrollment. (12 semester hours each semester)
Meet with your Academic Advising Center advisor three times your first semester and twice during the following semesters. (Once per semester if assigned a college or departmental advisor.)
Meet with a staff member from the Center for Diversity & Enrichment once each semester.
Attend a minimum of three programs sponsored or cosponsored by the Center for Diversity & Enrichment each academic year. These programs may be academic, support, or social in nature and are open to all community members.
Register for and successfully complete any one of three courses during your first semester of enrollment: The College Transition, a First-Year Seminar, or an Honors First-Year Seminar.
File the 2012-2013 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1, 2012, and provide all supporting documents (student and parent 2011 federal income tax return and Iowa Verification Form) by May 1, 2012.
